Ugly Backpacking Cruise

Cruising with a backpack is not always plain sailing as it may seem. Backpackers who have been on their own and fending for themselves, the cruise ship getaway may be of a problem for them. The cruise establishment’s rules stated that the passengers on board will have to surrender their passport for stamping and safe keeping and they will have to follow daily curfew and get back to the cruise ship before certain hours. Nevertheless, it is not the cruise’s fault they operate that way. It is just that the whole thing is just not you, naturally.

When you are at the cruise’s ports of call, the cruise ship tend to make profit by selling things you can get on shore like souvenirs, local massages and food. The prices will be marked up as most of the passengers will be too lazy to get off the ship to get the same items that were sold on board.

The same goes to on board items such as drinks and activity fees which are mostly expensive. Being good capitalists in a closed economy, the prices charged will make even the rich man poor. And some of the cruise will be too eager to impress that they become very anxious to serve.

Backpacking Volunteers to Help Haiti

Lending a helping hand to Haiti has been on most of everyone’s mind when the news broke out that the country was destructed by an earthquake. Nowadays, volunteers not only consist of medical crew, doctors, or people attached to the UNICEF foundations. Regular people like us, the backpackers and travel makers are always able and ready to give the extra help needed to save and treat the injured victims.

Since the saving operations are ongoing at Haiti, it will be difficult for us to get there if they want to join the current group of volunteers. So, the immediate help we can give to the Haitians is through monetary, food and clothing donations just for the time being. Nevertheless, beware of the several sites that are scamming for donators’ money by exploiting the cause to save Haiti.
