Budget Weekend in an RV

With an RV parked on your driveway, spending the weekend at home is certainly not the obvious option especially when you will be spending the rest of your working days stuck at home. This is when you should call up your friends and arrange a brief budget getaway at the public parks or campsites for a night in the outdoors.

How does an RV be cost effective in travelling? If you are going on a short round trip holiday less than 200 miles from home, an RV consumes low fuel, save cost campground fees and the cost of eating out as you can cook in there.

Finding a campsite near to your home is quite easy. Go on the internet and look for sites near your zip code and you will be amazed how many campsites there are within 100 miles from home. The notion of having fun only at places more expensive and far away from home can be distinguish from your mentality altogether.

You can always look up the local directories or the internet to get more information on the campsites in your neighbourhood or be a true adventurer and drive off into the nature with your mates for your weekend budget RV getaway.

5 Generator Safety Tips for RV

A generator serves as the power source to an RV and it is the most dependable piece of accessory for anyone who travels in an RV. What was supposed to be an enjoyable getaway could turn ugly if RV travellers do not follow the general safety precautions of RV generators such as:

  1. Travellers should check the exhaust system connecting to the RV to make sure there are no leaks as a faulty exhaust emitting gas could be deadly when generator is operating.
  2. Avoid sleeping with the generator on. Equipping the RV with a carbon monoxide detector is a good security measure if you travel to the outdoors.
  3. Storing flammable materials like gas, rags, newspapers and oil in the generator compartment.
  4. Give the RV a good servicing and maintain before driving off to your family holiday.
  5. If your RV hit something hard on the road, check the system of the RV’s generator exhaust for leakage or burst.

Now that you have got these 5 generator safety tips, you can get behind the wheels and start driving off to your holiday destination with your loved ones safely. Remember that safety precaution is never overrated when it comes to family getaways.

    Loading the Travel RV

People always think that they are alright and put the safety measures at the very back of their mind until something bad happens to them. The same goes to RV travellers who are eager to start their trip that they might forget to check the condition of the vehicle. Not all RV renting companies neglect their RVs’ maintenance but as passengers, we could not ignore our own safety before beginning the cheap getaway.

First of all, you have to make sure that the RV is not overloaded as most RV accidents are caused by overloading and unequal weight distribution in the vehicle. The overloading restricts braking and steering other than increasing fuel consumption. It will also contribute to the RV’s rig’s tyres, brakes and drive train failures. Weigh the RV at the public weight station to know how much weight it is carrying.

The best way to not overloading is lightening the RV’s load from top to bottom wherever necessary. Just like packing your backpack, load and reload your RV with essential items first before taking the non-essentials along. Put everything in place to make enough space for everybody before rolling the wheels out for your adventure getaway with your loved ones.

    Accommodating with the RV

What is better than having your accommodation wherever you go on your budget getaway? You do not have to find a place to eat, sleep, drink, or even a comfortable place change your clothes when you are outside. You can get all that when you take an RV with you for the whole trip. Getting an RV is much better and cheaper than renting a car for your whole entourage. Even though renting at RV is much expensive, but you will be saving other costs such as on hostels and fuel consumption as most RVs run on diesel.

Do not be fooled by the RV’s description without seeing it first. If the brochure says it can house four adults and two children, it will automatically translate to ‘sleeps 6 persons with not enough space left to move around’. It is alright if you get the RV one size bigger than what was described by the brochure or salesman.

The best thing about using RV as an accommodation is that you can get jam packed with your family and friends under one roof. Other than that, some RVs also provide a mini gas stove simple cooking using canned gas that can be bought at any grocery stores.

    Travel Easy with Your RV

For those who have driven automatic transmission cars before, they will have no problem handling a vehicle as big as the RV. But if you have not tried driving an automatic car, learning to drive one is like learning ABC. The advantage of knowing how to drive your own RV when you travel is you do not have to bring or hire a driver and the feel of RV travelling will not be felt as much.

Imagine driving the RV with your better half sitting beside you and your friends or family singing songs or chatting at the back or the vehicle. The spacious RV which normally has a measurement of 27ft long runs on a powerful diesel engine is easy to steer even though it has a wide built.

Nonetheless, some RV rental companies have put limitations for the RVs that they rented out to their customers. With quite a low rental fees, the company usually will tell their customers to drive on a paved road, and to be responsible for any damage caused by the gravel. But with a vehicle that could carry your whole holiday entourage, you will be crazy not to have this advantage getting them all together travelling under one roof!
